Kinesiology Taping

History -

Kinesiology taping, originally developed in the 1970s by Dr. Kenzo Kase, was designed to support muscles and joints without restricting movement. While it first gained recognition in human sports medicine, it has since been adapted for use within the animal field, offering a non-invasive tool to aid in animal rehabilitation.

What Is Kinesiology Taping? -

Kinesiology tape is a stretchy, breathable material applied to the skin or fur with a specific technique. It gently lifts the skin, creating space between the skin and underlying tissues. This space can help reduce pain, improve circulation, and facilitate lymphatic drainage.

Benefits -

  • Support muscles and joints during recovery

  • Enhance proprioception (body awareness)

  • Improve lymphatic flow and reduce swelling

  • Aid in post-surgical or injury rehabilitation

  • Encourage better posture and movement patterns

Whether assisting a horse recovering from a tendon injury, kissing spine, SIJ issues or a dog with arthritis, kinesiology taping is a versatile tool that complements manual therapy and exercise-based rehab. Taping is gentle, safe, and well-tolerated by most animals.

Unfortunately taping is not often possible to be done on some breeds of dogs due to the long coats.
